Session 14 – 25 September 2010 – Thai

This session we met up some place new.  We invaded Nick’s place in Fremont which meant new food possibilities.  We decided on Thai food from Kaosamai.  I pretty much always get the same thing when I go to Thai restaurants, and it’s not phad thai.  Nothing against phad thai, but I think it’s the most popular.  My fav is phad kee mao.  I love the wide noodles and all the vegetables and sauce.  I like it spicy, usually 3 stars is what I get.

For snacks this time we had several bowls of various items including nuts, puffy pea things, chex/cracker mix, red grapes, and lots of edible chocolate monsters.  Unfortunately it was our first cheeseless session.

14 Goldstar 1031 – Guiding Guyarde

We went to see Orvok first thing in the morning.  He recognized Winston and thought he had met him before but Winston did not recognize him.  He gave us a little more information on the town of Mortimer.  He knew someone that had been there about a month ago.  He claimed to have seen mangled corpses and was attacked by ghouls on his way back.  Even though it’s along the coast, it can’t be accessed by ship due to the steep rocky cliffs so the only way in and out is through Guyarde.  The leader and his family were killed and the town has been in chaos since then.

We found out Darren, our dwarf friend got a little too drunk last night and has been sharing a little too much information about us.  While on our way back to the Inn we ran into a man speaking to a crowd of people from a stage.  Two guards were protecting him.  As we came closer he pointed to us and said “They are the reason why our town is falling apart”.

Four angry shirtless peasants ran towards us with their arms flailing and swinging at us.  It didn’t take much to take them down but the remaining three were more challenging.  Winston got up on stage to attack a guard but lost his footing and fell off the stage, twisting his ankle.  After we took them all out, the onlookers looked to us to resolve their dispute.  They chanted, “call it”. We came up with a resolution where the merchants and clerics would work together instead of against each other.

13 Goldstar 1031 – Disorder in Guyarde

Deren, the dwarven rogue agreed to be our guide and liaison in Guyarde.  We found a place outside town to buy some clothes to blend in with the town folk so we don’t raise any suspicion.  Deren led us to the Burning Pony Inn and introduced us to Gimrin Fastrunner.

The town was pretty dead, it appeared quite a few people had left town after we killed the prince.  There was no longer anyone “in charge” but two factions have been trying to gain control and leadership over the town.  The merchant’s guild and an alliance of clerics.

Our plan was to visit the temples in the town and chat with the clerics about what has been going on and get their side of the story.  But first, we wanted to do a little shopping and see what the town had to offer.  We came across three nice items for sale.  We pooled some of our resources together to buy Adarra the Raise Dead Ritual which would come in very handy in case one of us ever gets killed in battle.  After selling the gold bracelet we found for 150 gp we had to come up with 550 more.  Bracers of perfect shot for 700 gp and a bag of holding for 1200 gp were the other nice items we ended up passing on.

Deren led us to the two temples in the city, one of which was shared by both Avandra and Moradin.  The other temple belonged to The Raven Queen.  We visited with Larya Wiseheld, an Avandran cleric, first followed by the Moradin cleric, Gergor Keepbound.  We left Farhir Netherstand, the Raven Queen cleric for last.  They all gave us their story of  why they think they should be in control of the town.  They want to make the town into a place of learning and build a library.  Farhir said “we should lead with knowledge, not trade”. We asked them all the same questions about the Divine Order and the blacksword they all gave pretty much the same answers.  They had seen the Divine Order as recently as a few weeks ago, saying they had come from Mortimer and carried supplies that were being shipped out.  No one claimed to have seen the blacksword Draven has been looking for though. Session 13 – 11 September 2010 – Pizza

We met for DnD at Olivia’s in Green Lake again and since Turnpike Pizza is a few feet away, we decided to order some pizza.  We got three this time.  The Greenlake Special is the one with the green zig zags on it.  It’s topped with aartichoke, sun dried tomatoes, garlic, and pesto.

We also had our snacks.  I brought some aged cheddar and a horseradish cheddar to go with some crackers and some of my fig jam and plum chutney.  Olivia also shared some pita chips and hummus in a cute Mexican serving bowl.

11 Goldstar 1031 – The Gelatinous Cubes

We made our way through the orc forest without getting into any fights.  Our plan was to go to Espoir and talk to Winston’s uncle to see if he had heard any news about Guyarde.  We were on the outskirts of town and had hoped to hire a messenger to his uncle so we wouldn’t have to go into town ourselves.  Unfortunately that plan didn’t pan out very well.  The messenger turned out to be not all there and decided to send him on a quest to gather some flowers instead just to give him something to do.

We made our way to Guyarde and ran into a couple of inexperienced robbers on the side of the road.  They turned out to be from Guyarde and were just harmless people, very desperate for food.  We got off our horses to share with them some of our food and were invited to join their camp and rest for the night in a cave nearby that they’ve been using for shelter. They told us some people have been disappearing in the night and it was a mystery where they have gone.

We sat around a camp fire and stayed up late into the night listening to their story and telling them some of ours but we didn’t give them too much information because we weren’t sure they could be trusted.  All of a sudden 3 gelatinous cubes appeared out of nowhere.  If anyone even got near them, they would we captured in their slimy goo and it was difficult to get out.  Luckily, I was able to attack them with my bow from a distance so I was able to avoid being captured.  It took quite a while but we eventually were able to take them all down, with some help from Deren, a former guard from Guyarde.

10 Goldstar 1031 – the lich

The room we just cleared of skeletons had two exits in the back.  The one on the right was a dead end, but the one on the left led to a stone door which Winston was the first to check out.  He got close to the door and suddenly was overwhelmed with darkness and despair.  He quickly backed away from the door and warned us of the evil that must be on the other side.

From a distance, Melisandra was able to conjure a hand that pushed the door open for us.  Winston gathered up the courage to approach the door again and peaked inside.  He saw a big chair on the other end of the room with a slouching skeletal figure of a man sitting in it which we later realize is a lich.  It spoke, “Why have you come?  Why have you come to my resting place?”

Winston replied back with a lie saying, “We’re from the Divine Order”.  Unfortunately, or fortunately for us, the figure called his bluff and Winston gave the real reason we were there which was to look for the Divine Order.  We were told it was too late, that they were already gone which confirms they were here at one time.  He pointed us in the direction of Guyarde, the city whose prince we killed.  He gave us the alternative to join him for eternity but we decided against that offer.

On the way out, Draven found a crumpled piece of paper on the floor which turned out to be written by the lich.  The letter, in it’s entirety can be found here.  This gave Draven some clues to his search for the Blacksword blade he has been searching for.

We didn’t waste any time leaving the tomb. I was hoping we would stop to check out the sarcophagus, at least one of them.  But no, it seemed everyone was too chicken shit to open it.  We’ll never know what magical item might have been laying inside.

We repelled down the cliff and found our horses were still there, waiting for us to return.  We had no problems crossing back across the river and decided to stop at our previous camping spot for the night.

Session 12 – 21 August 2010 – salmon tart and pie

I’m a little late posting last session but I will still get my posts done before next session which is really all that matters. We ate well as usual last session. Kelly recently took a pie baking class from Kate McDermott so she’s been on a pie baking kick. I think we all enjoyed what she had prepared for us. We had two lovely pie options for dessert, vanilla bean cherry and peach bourbon maple.  I brought some home made ice cream, a vanilla bean pernod and cinnamon basil.  They went perfectly with the pies.  I had a small slice of each and I must know the secret recipe for the pie crust. It was the crispiest, flakiest crust I’ve ever had.  Normally I don’t start my post talking about dessert, but I couldn’t resist.

We also had a great selection of cheeses, pickled veggies, and an olive serpent to snack on.  The pre-dinner snack was Summer Three Ways tart that was omg good.  Think of a pizza but with a flaky pastry crust with the best toppings ever.  One was topped with thinly sliced figs, pine nuts, and herbs (tarragon maybe?).  Another was topped with potoatoes and I think rosemary and the last, my favorite, was topped with the best cherry tomatoes ever from kelly’s garden no less and some capers.  If you think your yard is too small to have a garden you should check out Kelly’s she has got so much herbs and fruit trees and vegetables in a tiny little space you wouldn’t believe it.

For the main course, we had grilled salmon and marinated pork skewers.  The skewers were more for one of our non-salmon loving players so I didn’t try any of those but I had plenty to eat so I didn’t miss them.

10 Goldstar 1031 – Dark Tomb cave

After awaking from a good night’s sleep, we decided to continue further into the tomb. We descended down the hole we had seen in the last room we were in, through a narrow hallway leading to another room. 5 skeletons greeted us with their weapons held high. One of them got too close to me which caused me to bust out my warhammer. I finally managed to destroy the skeleton and when I did, bone shards flew every direction, some of them scraped my skin. I got my bow out again and started shooting arrows at the other skeletons until they all landed in piles of bones on the floor. We found 40 gp and an opal when the fighting was done.

9 Goldstar 1031 – Held Hostage

This is turning out to be the longest day ever. This is now the 3rd gaming session spent on one day!

The ogre spotted me and instantly came at me with his arms spread before I could even have a chance to run. He grabbed me, picking me up off my feet and carried me over to Brother Malden and the other two he was sleeping next to. I was stripped of my weapons, ankles bound, and my hands tied behind my back. They interrogated me about Adarra and tortured me until I bled and finally told them where she was. I confirmed their suspicions that she was indeed down in the black tomb.  I was hoping they would come soon to save me.  It had been quite a while since I left them and they must know by now that something was wrong. The ogre was sent off to the side of the ruins while two guards were place on either side of the entrance.

While tied up on the ground I could over hear the guys talking about Adarra.  They somehow found out Adarra’s mission to kill all the Divine Order head clerics and they had come to put a stop to it.

Soon I saw Draven come out from the ruins followed shortly by Rhed.  I yelled for them to save me. They split and each of them stood in front of the guards on either side of the entrance.  Brother Malden held a knife to my throat and threatened to kill me if they attacked.  He yelled, “Send out the cleric unarmed”.  I could picture Adarra sneering and saying “you wish”.

Each guard attacked Draven and Rhed, pushing them back and putting them into a daze.  The ogre growled and turned around.  It seemed Winston snuck out the side of the ruins and stabbed the ogre in the back.  This did not make Brother Malden happy and he tightened his grip on me.  Rhed got close enough to heal some of my bleeding wounds.  The ogre took a swing at Winston in retaliation but whiffed it.  Adarra made her way out of the ruins and came toward me and Brother Malden.  I thought she was going to swing her mace in his face, but instead surprised us both and pushed me hard out of his grasp and I fell to the ground, rolling to safety. Session 11 – 7 August 2010 – Pizza

We had a different location for this session.  We met at Olivia’s place in Green Lake.  Her apartment complex has a nice spacious community room which we reserved for the night.  It had lots of chairs, tables and even a full kitchen.    Dusty brought his gf who was visiting and she even prepared some dishes for us even though she wasn’t playing.  She brought a low cal jello dessert which I forgot to try and some yummy chicken breasts which I did try but forgot to take a photo of.

There was, of course, lots of snacks including the usual crackers, meats, and cheeses as well as Kelly’s delicious toasted herb nuts and some amazing goat cheese pesto.  We hadn’t had any skittles in a while so I brought a bag which completely disappeared by the end of the night.

Turnpike Pizza is literally in the same building we were in so we also got a sausage and pepperoni pizza to snack on too.  I wasn’t too hungry after all the other snacks but I did eat one piece which was good.
